Today’s message is centred on how God calls us in this season to step away from our comfort zones and encounter his favour and glory.

In the first reading, God commanded Abram to go where he would show him. And God blessed his future. The responsorial psalm is a hymn beckoning God’s mercy on us (those) who trust in Him—those who trust their future in His hands for proper guidance. St Paul writing to Timothy in the second reading, mentioned God’s grace given us from the beginning, which we have discovered by Jesus’ appearing (coming) to us. That grace is the transforming grace of resurrection and life, which has abolished death for those who believe in Jesus.

Today’s gospel was about the transfiguration of Jesus on the mountain. Jesus brought 3 of his disciples with him away to that higher ground of a glorious experience, which led Peter to appreciate that moment when he said, “Lord, it is wonderful for us to be here.”

God, who called us into existence, has brought us together today as individuals and families (like Abram) and as a community of faith (like Jesus’ disciples) to be touched by His glory. Having some time alone with the Lord is necessary. It transforms us, and we can hear God speaking to us.

It is often an uphill task to get out of our comfort zones and climb that mountain of spiritual experience; sometimes, we find it difficult to ascend (lift our hearts to God) in prayer or embark on faith-based exercises. But if we are determined to enjoy God’s blessings, we can sincerely try them during this Lent.

As you listen to God’s voice calling you today to come away to a special place of encounter with Him, may you be richly blessed like Abram. May you see God’s glory shine upon you, and His blessings abound with you forever like the disciples, that you may be blessings unto others through Jesus Christ, our source of grace. Amen.
