Hello everybody!

Just a short one this time. It has been a very exhausting week for me. Kim (the co-ordinator in the eye room) with whom I work, has been unwell this past week, so I have been trying to incorporate her job into mine, in addition to working with our day crew. We have still had the same number of patients each day, but the workload for me has at times been almost unmanageable. ECG’s for palpitations, taking blood post needlestick , an unwell patient post surgery, and a day of diabetics – 11 out of the 21 patients on one particular day were diabetic. It has been busy for me on a ‘normal’ day, but with the added pressure this last week of having a team member missing, I am thoroughly depleted both physically and mentally. I did not attend the Celebration of Sight on Friday. Unfortunately, this coming week will be the same. I am really not looking forward to it. ( Dr Glenn and Kim left last night for 2 weeks of leave over Christmas). Additionally, there have been many people either leaving, or just going home temporarily for leave over Christmas – a good proportion of which I have begun to know very well and deeper relationships are forming. On top of all that, I had quite a disturbing conversation over a spiritual matter with someone earlier in the week, which has affected me more than usual.

If I could ask for prayers please – that I will be able to carry on and continue to do a good job despite my circumstances, that would be really lovely.

We have had problems with containers being delivered to the ship (the mail is sent to either Holland or USA and then forwarded with the next container shipment) so I have no idea when any post will arrive in Cameroon. Christmas cards probably had to be posted before I left the UK!!!!

The ship is looking quite Christmasy with all the decorations, we had carols by candlelight on the dock on Friday night and a Christmas market yesterday evening. Quite hard to enter into the Christmas season when I’m lacking so much energy and enthusiasm, and find the candlelight carol singing very strange when everyone is spraying DEET (mosquito spray) on themselves first and we’re all wearing flip flops.

Hope all is ok with everyone.

Take care
